Hello loves! Welcome back to the Mama Jene Designs blog. ^_^ It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, especially about actual planning. I’ve been out of it for the past couple months dealing with my mental health, moving to our dream house (woohoo!), and some other personal things. But here’s to creating and sharing new content! ? Starting with DIY planner folders…
Besides getting back to blogging, I’ve been posting to social media (finally) again – including Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook! Crazy, I know. But one of the posts I shared recently was a flip through of my witchy mini planner. (You can check out the Insta post here or the YouTube video here.) Some of you have been reaching out to me about the flip, asking where to find the folders I have in there. Fortunately for you guys, they’re an easy do-it-yourself project that you can do at home with just some scrapbook paper, scissors, a ruler, and some double sided tape.
DIY Planner Folders
For the sake of this tutorial, I’m only going to be explaining how to make folders for disc planners the size of a Mini Happy Planner. Of course, you can make these folders for any size disc or ring planner. All you have to do is change the measurements to fit your planner’s dimensions. You can do this easily by using a planner page or insert from your planner.
- 12 x 12 scrapbook paper
- Page from your planner
- Xacto knife (optional)
- Tape runner
- Hole punch
1. Draw your template.
Flip your scrapbook paper to the “inside” side of your folder and draw out the measurements shown below. This is when you’ll use your planner page to measure out the correct dimensions.
Keep in mind these measurements are for a planner the size of a Mini Happy Planner. The folders will end up 7in high and about 4.7 in long.
2. Cut it out.
Now cut it out along the outside lines! Be sure to leave the flaps connected. You’re going to need them. This is what it should look like when you’re done:
3. Fold your folder.
It’s time to fold your folder. Fold the bottom flaps up to make the pockets. Now fold over the flaps so they rest on top of the pocket edge.
You can use your scissors or a xacto knife to cut a slit out of the folded flaps at the top edge of the pocket. Check out the photos or video to see what I mean.
4. Tape it down!
Use your tape runner on the inside of the side flaps so that they fold over and stick along the edge, on top of the pocket. Now you can fold your folder in half.
5. Hole punch that sh*t.
You’ll want to be careful with this one. If your scrapbook paper is too thick, you might not be able to fit the folder into your hole punch. The happy planner punch is notorious for getting stuck and effin’ stuff up if things are too thick, but the paper I used (and recommended in materials) fit just fine.
If the paper you’re using is too hefty to fit, you can cut your folder into 2 and punch it one side at a time.
(Optional) Although it’s not required, feel free to round your corners if that’s your preference.
And voila! Just snap it into your disc planner and fill it with all the goodies you want. 🙂
